When buying a condo be sure to look into the financial status of the owners association. Investors should certainly be aware of what association dues are but also what special assessments owners may may face in the future. Are adequate cash reserves being maintained for funding things like roof replacements? Are association financial statements and copies of board meetings available? Knowing what was discussed in recent meetings can be useful in assessing the association and what financial obligations owners may face in the future.

Plans are being made for a vote in congress next week on a government health care bill that neither the public nor the majority of congress will have ever read. The only reason for hiding the content of this bill is to prevent public outrage from stopping it’s passage. Regardless of whether you’re a democrat, republican or independent this is just plain wrong! President Obama pledged transparency with all bills to be posted on the internet at least 3 days before a vote. Every citizen should contact their members of congress and the White House to demand that government deliver on that promise. This is not a political blog but this issue will effect everyone that visits, lives in, owns property or operates a business in Panama City Beach. We have a right to know whats in this bill well in advance of the date it’s voted on.
